EDGEWOOD, Md., June 21, 2022 — APG Federal Credit Union (APGFCU) is excited to expand its sponsorship of Banzai, an award-winning virtual financial literacy program, to over 400 schools across Baltimore County and Baltimore City. This extension of APGFCU’s partnership with Banzai will grant students within Baltimore County Public Schools and Baltimore City Public Schools free access to financial education tools and calculators, helpful articles and personalized coaches in the classroom and from home.

Through its interactive education, Banzai teaches students to track how their money is being used, recognize financial trade-offs, build budgets and more. Its courses align with Maryland’s state curriculum requirements, making the program a fun way for students to gain vital financial literacy skills. At a time when many are facing unprecedented financial challenges, these courses provide an invaluable lesson on the importance of securing a solid financial understanding.

"Banzai is a web-based financial literacy program. Kids get their own accounts, and they work through assignments that are based on real life," says Morgan Vandagriff, co-founder of Banzai. "Because APGFCU is sponsoring it, local schools get it for free. More than ever, it's important that kids develop sound financial skills to prepare them for the real world, and APGFCU realizes that and they're doing something about it."

For six years, APGFCU has worked with Banzai to build financial literacy in the community and further its presence as a partner in financial wellness. This expansion into Baltimore area schools comes as a natural next step for APGFCU following its extension of membership access to include those who live, work, worship, volunteer, attend school in, or do business in Baltimore County and Baltimore City. APGFCU is proud to now sponsor Banzai for over 500 schools across Harford County, Cecil County, Baltimore County and Baltimore City.

“APGFCU is committed to helping people of all ages achieve, prosper and grow,” says Liz Monti, Financial Education Director of APGFCU. “We believe the key is to begin imparting knowledge at an early age. By instilling financial literacy today, students develop skills and habits to be on the path to financial stability tomorrow.”

Beyond the Banzai library, APGFCU offers virtual and in-school lessons to complement teachers’ financial literacy curriculum, as well as personal finance seminars featuring local experts on timely topics to help the community grow wealth their way.
