APGFCU Awards $1,000 CUFMDDC Scholarship to Local Teen
(Aberdeen, August 3, 2010)— Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union [APGFCU] is proud to announce the local winner of The Credit Union Foundation of Maryland and the District of Columbia’s [CUFMDDC] $1,000 College Essay Scholarship for 2010.
Justin Harold, of Jarrettsville, was presented with the $1,000 check on July 15, 2010, at APGFCU’s Edgewood branch by Don Lewis, APGFCU’s President & CEO; Bill Schultheis, APGFCU’s Executive Vice President; Sharon Sykes, APGFCU’s Senior Vice President of Marketing; and, Kyle Swisher, CUFMDDC’s Executive Director. Mr. Harold plans to attend Salisbury University, in Maryland, in the fall.

Each year, CUFMDDC awards scholarships to high school and college students, under 21 years of age, who are members of credit unions in Maryland and DC. This year, applicants were asked to complete a written essay on how credit union membership can help people avoid financial pitfalls. A total of 328 written essays were submitted.
CUFMDDC is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting credit unions and the communities they serve with an emphasis on financial literacy, small credit union support, professional development and education, and leadership development.
Each year, APGFCU awards its own college scholarships to exemplary graduating high school students based on a written essay, academic achievement, and community involvement. APGFCU is a leader in financial literacy programs designed to help young members develop successful money management skills.
