(Aberdeen, November 25, 2009) — Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union [APGFCU] proudly hosted its annual Women’s Conference at the Bayou Restaurant in Havre de Grace on Saturday, November 14. Attracting over 70 attendees, the free conference was a unique and interactive learning experience providing guests with advice on how to successfully balance their personal and professional lives and build wealth by taking advantage of free local resources.
The free, four-hour event began at 8 a.m. with continental breakfast and special gifts for guests, including complimentary 2008 Quicken financial software. The conference’s theme, “Discover Your Path to Financial Success,” featured four locally-known experts: Linda Siegel, Operations Manager, Susquehanna Workforce Network; Mary Chance, Harford County Community Services Director; Audra Caplan, Director, Harford County Public Library; and, Sheila Murphy, Community Relations Manager, Upper Bay Counseling & Support Services.
Linda Siegel delivered the welcome address, providing an overview and strategies for surviving the current economic workforce climate. Mary Chance discussed the free community services available to Harford County residents including transportation, disability services, elder care, guardianships, mentoring, and volunteering. Audra Caplan presented an overview of free county- and state-level library services and resources. The last speaker, Sheila Murphy, inspired guests with a message of hope and empowerment.
The 2009 Women’s Conference grew from a similar event for women last year that attracted over 70 guests. Aligned with APGFCU’s strategic focus to provide free financial literacy education, the conference demonstrates the credit union mission of “People Helping People.”
