(Aberdeen, July 14, 2009) —Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union [APGFCU] is proud to announce the 2009 graduates of its Leadership Academy: Chris Healey, Member Service Supervisor; Lisa Higgins, Member Services Specialist; and Kelly Miller, Assistant Branch Manager, Aberdeen Proving Ground [APG] branch.
Launched in 2006, the APGFCU Leadership Academy was created as a means for participating APGFCU employees to enhance leadership skills for individual growth and organizational improvements, equip them with training to take on greater responsibility in leadership roles, and hone skills in strategic planning, goal setting, and management to benefit APGFCU member-owners.
Graduate Kelly Miller stated, “The Leadership Academy helped me realize that leaders are not born, although they must possess the desire to exceed. After graduation, I applied for and accepted the assistant branch manager's position at the APG branch. I'm excited for this new role and believe that the Leadership Academy has prepared me for my new responsibilities.”
Limited to eight participants per class, the APGFCU Leadership Academy focuses on developing leaders in the following four key branch operations leadership positions: Financial Services Supervisor (FSS), Senior Member Service Specialist (Sr. MSS), Assistant Branch Manager, and Branch Manager. The supporting roles of Administrative Manager, Coach, and Mentor were created to aid the participants in their development.
The challenging, 18 month-long curriculum includes cross-departmental training, on-the-job assignments, coursework, and independent study designed around the job-specific and generic competencies associated with each leadership position. Coaches act as subject matter experts to convey specific areas of knowledge, while mentors serve as organizational and career guides. Administrative managers, the person to whom the participant directly reports, provide day-to-day scheduling support and performance feedback.
Since 2006, nearly twenty APGFCU employees have graduated from the Leadership Academy, with three employees currently enrolled in the 2009-2010 class.
