(Aberdeen, December 10, 2008) — Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union [APGFCU] officially announced its new business partnership with Hall’s Cross Roads Elementary School in Aberdeen. The partnership was announced by Gwen Benjamin-Jones, Principal; David Gilbert, APGFCU Chairman of the Board; Don Lewis, APGFCU President/CEO; and the APGFCU Education Department to the entire school faculty, staff and student body, as part of American Education Week.
In the words of APGFCU President/CEO, Don Lewis,"Education in financial management is extremely important. The secret to financial literacy is ‘Start young and continue to educate.’ Our community credit union will help the youngest of students as well as the entire Hall’s Cross Roads community. They will build their wealth through money management education made possible in partnership with APGFCU.”
With this partnership, APGFCU will make financial education presentations in classrooms for every grade level, host free Money Management seminars on weekends for parents and community members, and provide recognition and reward incentives for student and school achievement.
Since 1995, APGFCU has partnered with five other elementary schools in Harford and Cecil County providing free financial literacy programs and wealth-building resources to youth and adults tailored to the needs of the school community.
APGFCU is number one in Maryland for youth financial literacy efforts according to the National Youth Involvement Board [NYIB]. In 2008, the credit union delivered 226 financial presentations to over 4,500 students across Harford and Cecil counties.
Financial literacy education is one of the cornerstones that has allowed APGFCU to thrive in its first 70 years, and it will continue to bring long-term value to its members and communities, forming the foundation for its future.
