APGFCU Annual Shred-It Day Helps Secure Local Families and Save Trees

APGFCU Employees, Catherin Berton and Amy Rohrback

(Aberdeen, November 18, 2008) — As part of its Personal Security Awareness Month, Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union [APGFCU] partnered with Shred-It Baltimore to host a free Shred-It Day event on Saturday, October 18, at its Aberdeen, Edgewood, Elkton and Bel Air branches, attracting nearly 200 members.

The event was designed to provide a fun and fast means for members to dispose of sensitive information. Regularly shredding personal records decreases the chance of having personal information stolen by “dumpster divers” and burglars and is an effective way to safeguard personal financial information while recycling paper.

To promote the convenience and security of its free e-statement service for members, APGFCU also gave away four heavy-duty cross-cut shredders as part of a Personal Security Month sweepstakes. The sweepstakes increased e-statements usage by 104% in October.

The winners of the shredders are:

  • Anthony McPherson, Abingdon
  • Candace Simon, Springfield, VA
  • Karen Karas, Edgewood
  • Tina Chaffman, Abingdon
  • Members who signed up for free e-statements during October were automatically entered to win one of four shredders. The winners were randomly selected in the sweepstakes drawing on November 17, 2008.

Shred-It Baltimore estimates that over the course of the last five years, APGFCU has saved over 800 trees by shredding and recycling paper. APGFCU is committed to building strong families for a stronger community with nine branches in Harford and Cecil Counties. For more information, please visit www.APGFCU.com or call 410-272-4000, press four, to speak with a member service representative.
