Women's Conference 2007
(Aberdeen, MD
December 19, 2007) —
On Saturday, November 3, Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union, (APGFCU), hosted its first Women’s Financial Conference, “Your Healthy Path.” The free, four-hour event offered guests food, gifts, prizes, fellowship, and an abundance of wealth-building information and practical financial application tips. Aligned with APGFCU’s strategic focus to provide financial literacy education to segments of underserved populations, the educational conference successfully demonstrated the credit union mission of, “People Helping People.”
“Research shows that women today have the majority of the responsibility for making the economic and financial decisions that impact their own families. Yet, a large percentage of these women lack skills training in financial literacy that allow them to make the best financial choices,” stated Tina Mike, Education Director, APGFCU.
Keynote speaker Sharon Kedar, best-selling co-author of the nationally published book, On My Own Two Feet; A Modern Girl’s Guide to Personal Finance, gave complimentary copies of her book to guests.
Conference topics included Credit Management, Savings and Investing for Women, and Financial Decision-Making for Women. Plans are underway for a similar event in 2008.
