APGFCU presents Military Saves
(Aberdeen, February 13, 2007) —
The Department of Defense has designated February 25 through
March 4, 2007, as Military Saves Week. This week is dedicated
to encouraging service members and their families to establish
savings goals and set money aside for emergencies and other
needs. APGFCU is proudly supporting
this effort by asking military members to join Military Saves.
“APGFCU is delighted to support the Military Saves
campaign,” said Tina Mike, APGFCU Education Director. “We
see an incredible need for improved saving habits in today’s
world. This is a model program for changing lives by creating
economic opportunity.”
Saving money and alleviating debt require dedication, awareness,
and patience. Military Saves provides the necessary tools
to help accomplish that financial mission. Individuals simply
make the commitment to save money on a regular basis to achieve
their personal financial goals. Participants receive free
educational and motivational workshops, a free consultation
with a wealth coach, free advice from a financial planner,
a quarterly newsletter, and much-needed encouragement to
continue the savings habit.
In addition to building a solid savings plan, any person
who registers as a Military Saver between February 26 and
March 10, 2007, will be entered to win a $500 APGFCU 12-month
certificate. Kiosks will be available to sign up at APGFCU’s
branches in Aberdeen, Havre de Grace, and on post.
Stuart Clode, APGFCU SVP, stated that “as a credit
union, APGFCU’s mission is to improve the financial
wellness of all members and to empower them to meet life’s
challenges with confidence and knowledge. The military family
has been our focus from the very beginning and will remain
a top priority.”
APGFCU’s roots go back to 1938 when a group of local
pioneers decided to address the savings and borrowing needs
of the military families at the Aberdeen Proving Ground.
Sixty-nine years later, their vision remains intact with
a full presence on the Post. An active branch office and
four ATMs serve the financial needs of military and civilian
families, in addition to the seven branches and over 20 ATMs
off-post. In conjunction with the APG administration, APGFCU
also provides money management training to young recruits
and offers FREE Budgetary Advice for any family that could
use a helping hand to meet its day to day financial commitments.
The APG branch, located at Chesapeake Avenue and Oakington
Street, is open from 8:30am to 4:00pm Monday through Thursday,
8:30am-5:00pm Fridays, and 9:30-1:00pm Saturdays, and provides
extra long hours on all civilian and military paydays to
meet the special circumstances of these APG members.
